In a major development, in May 2024, the first batch of Ukrainian pilots have finished flight training in the United Kingdom, enhancing the country’s air defense capabilities as it continues to resist Russian military aggression.

Equipped with fundamental flight guidance, ground school, and English language instruction, these pilots are now ready to undergo specialized training with the French Air Force to excel in operating F-16 fighter jets.

“This milestone is another step forward for Ukraine’s aerial capabilities – together with our allies we are showing that we will continue to stand by Ukraine’s side,” stated Shapps.

As Ukraine looks forward to its first F-16s as part of a foreign aid package from the U.S. Congress, there is anticipation that these advanced aircraft will rejuvenate Ukraine’s aerial fleet and provide a substantial advantage against Russian forces.

A Ukrainian pilot-in-training echoed this sentiment, saying, “The F-16 is a powerful and versatile aircraft that will give us the edge we need to dominate the skies.”
