Glock enthusiasts and firearm aficionados have a new subject of discussion as Glock, Inc. unveils its latest addition to the Gen5 line—the G17L Gen5 MOS pistol. This long-awaited model combines the classic features of the G17 with modern updates and the versatility of the Modular Optic System (MOS).
The G17L Gen5 MOS retains the traditional Glock 17 frame but extends its reach with a 6.02-inch barrel, providing both added velocity and an extended sight radius for improved accuracy.
While the significance of sight radius may be debated among shooters in the era of micro red dot sights, this model offers compatibility with these optics, leaving no question about its ability to accommodate the latest in firearm technology.
Glock, Inc. has not disclosed pricing information, but anticipates that the pistol will be available at dealers soon. This new release is expected to pique the interest of firearm collectors and competitive shooters alike.
Josh Dorsey, VP at Glock, Inc., stated, “As Perfection Continues at Glock, we are continually in development of new technologies and expanding our product offering. We are excited to bring you these two new additions to the Gen5 line of pistols.”
The new model comes with all the Gen5 features, including the Glock Marksman Barrel (GMB), an ambidextrous slide stop lever, and a reversible magazine catch catering to both right and left-handed users. The absence of finger grooves allows for a more individualized grip, and the Safe Action® System ensures maximum performance with consistent safety.
Reactions among the Glock community have been mixed, with some expressing a preference for non-MOS versions and others celebrating the addition of the G17L Gen5 MOS to their collections. Debate continues over the benefits of a longer barrel, with some users finding the extended design cumbersome and others asserting its utility and precision.
“It’s hard to imagine that extra 2/3″ results in much difference in muzzle rise,” one user commented, reflecting on the balance between the G17L and its shorter counterparts.
Despite the varied opinions, the anticipation for the G17L Gen5 MOS is palpable. Users are curious about potential modifications, such as the removal of the ‘speed hole’ on the top slide in previous models, and how it will translate to the Gen5’s overall performance.
Some Glock enthusiasts have already made clear their intent to secure this model upon its release, while others engage in friendly banter about its features and potential uses, with one user humorously suggesting that the G17L could double as a putter or walking stick due to its length.
