Curtiss-Wright, a notable player in the defense and aerospace industry, has recently secured contracts worth over $130 million.
These contracts are focused on equipping several U.S. Navy submarine and aircraft carrier programs with crucial components, reinforcing the company’s long-term relationship with the Navy.
The Davidson, North Carolina-based company announced on Wednesday that it will supply propulsion valves, pumps, as well as advanced instrumentation and control systems.
These components will be essential for the Virginia-class nuclear-powered attack submarine, Columbia-class submarine, and Ford-class aircraft carrier programs.
This suite of contracts, awarded by Bechtel Plant Machinery—the prime contractor for the U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program—will support various needs including ship construction, procurement of spare parts, and submarine back-fit procurements.
The projects are expected to extend Curtiss-Wright’s engagement with the U.S. Navy, with activities scheduled to run through 2029.
Lynn Bamford, Curtiss-Wright Chair and CEO, and a 2021 Wash100 awardee, expressed the company’s dedication to these critical naval defense platforms which have continuously received robust Congressional support.
She highlighted, “We look forward to delivering the most advanced, reliable, and vital technologies and remain well-positioned to benefit from the continued expansion of our U.S. naval fleet.”
Curtiss-Wright’s involvement in these projects is not a new enterprise; the company has a history of securing substantial contracts to support the Naval fleet.
Previously, in July, it received contracts valued at over $250 million, and in August 2022, it won $220 million in contracts for similar support efforts.
These earlier contracts were issued by both Bechtel Plant Machinery and General Dynamics Electric Boat.
The recent contracts signify not only an expansion of Curtiss-Wright’s work on these projects but also its commitment to enhancing U.S. Navy capabilities.
This announcement comes on the heels of a significant $9.4 billion investment by the U.S. Navy in November of the previous year for two Columbia-class nuclear missile submarines with General Dynamics Electric Boat.
The contracted work will be carried out at Curtiss-Wright’s facilities located in New York and Pennsylvania, falling under the Defense Electronics and Naval & Power segments of the company.
The company has already initiated engineering and manufacturing works on the contract, which are planned to continue until at least 2025.
